A Ports of Auckland stevedore has died while working on a ship at Fergusson Container Terminal in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The man suffered the fatal injury at roughly 2am.
"We are all absolutely devastated by this news," Ports of Auckland CEO Tony Gibson told Newshub.
"An investigation is underway, and we are providing support to our staff member's family and all our staff. Their welfare is our number one concern at this point."
A police spokesperson confirmed a person had died following a workplace incident on Sunderland Street in Parnell early on Sunday.
Emergency services were alerted at about 2:15am and WorkSafe has been advised.
The man's death is now under investigation.
