There's a return to chillier conditions as part of the 'Australian cold snap' hits New Zealand on Tuesday.
As the cold southwest change moves up the country, it will drive temperatures back down after a recent run of warmer weather.
NIWA says it will hit Wellington by Tuesday evening, just in time for the capital's trek home.
And with snow flurries in the high country and lower South Island, MetService is issuing a warning for drivers.
"After a week of double-digit maximum temperatures for much of the far south, Gore only reaches 9C and Queenstown just touches 10C," MetService says.
"Parts of the lower South Island and the high country also feel the effects of that colder air as snow flurries make an appearance. Snow could settle on some mountain passes and elevated roads, where there are road snow warnings out.
"Temperatures become noticeably cooler over the North Island from Wednesday as the cold air continues northwards, with Masterton reaching 10C and Wellington only going up to 11C."
