An employee at an east Auckland Bunnings store has been hospitalised after being stabbed by a robber.
Chris Barry from the Counties Manukau Police said they were called to the Botany store on Thursday evening.
"At around 6pm, a male has entered the store armed with a knife and stabbed a Bunnings staff member before demanding money.
"Another worker has quickly intervened and apprehended the male until police arrived."
The worker was taken to Middlemore Hospital and is in a stable condition.
Barry said the alleged offender is also at Middlemore Hospital in police custody and is also in a stable condition.
"Our investigation is ongoing and charges will be laid," he said.
Bunnings NZ director Jacqui Coombes said they are working closely with police.
"Our absolute priority is the welfare of all our team members involved," she said.
"We thank our team for the way they worked together to handle a very challenging situation."
