A five-month-old baby has died after its stroller was hit by a car in the Auckland suburb of Northcote.
Paramedics were called to a report of a motor-vehicle incident on Lake Rd at 8:54am on Monday, a St John spokesperson confirmed to Newshub.
Newshub understands the pram rolled down a driveway and into oncoming traffic, where it was struck by the vehicle just south of the Exmouth Rd roundabout.
The child was treated at the scene and transported to Starship Children's Hospital in a critical condition. They later died in hospital.
Cyclist Bec Haswell, who was passing by the incident after it happened, told Stuff the capsule the baby was in "had scrapes on it".
Police say it is investigating how the incident occurred and the Serious Crash Unit is examining the scene.
Chalk markings on the road's northbound lane made by detectives at the scene were visible at around 10:30am.
