Fed-up Christchurch residents have taken to social media over "appalling" work undertaken on a new cycle lane in the suburb of New Brighton.
Coastal Ward Community Board member Jo Zervos posted photos of the cycleway, located on New Brighton Rd, on Facebook earlier this week. It doesn't take much to work out what's wrong with it - only a tiny portion of the cycleway has been re-sealed and painted, while the rest remains unsealed and dominated by potholes.
"It is bizarre why they have painted bike symbols and yellow lines the whole length if it needs to be finished off," Zervos wrote.
"I'm really disappointed that they couldn't just do this small strip."
Other commenters also weren't pleased with the work.
"How appalling," one said.
"You're taking the piss right?" another asked.
"Getting a bit sick of this second class treatment," wrote another.
The Christchurch City Council, however, confirmed the work is not yet complete.
"More work is required to extend the asphalt concrete where the edge of the surfacing has broken," council head of transport Richard Osbourne said in a statement.
"While the smoothing work was largely completed last week, the final surface which is a chip surface will cover kerb to kerb.
"This is planned to be done in early November along with the final markings."
On Thursday, Zervos posted additional photos showing some progress being made.
"It looks a lot better than the other day," she wrote.
"Not sure why they didn't do the lot but it's better than nothing."
