The Director-General of Health says Kiwis should not get complacent with COVID-19 measures if they want a safe Christmas.
Dr Ashley Bloomfield on Friday announced nine new cases of COVID-19 - eight in managed isolation and one household contact.
Dr Bloomfield said Kiwis should keep recording their movements by using the QR code scanner, wearing masks on public transport and planes, and continue to wash their hands.
"Please get back into the habit," Dr Bloomfield said.
"I think we quickly fall into the pattern of alert level 1. The pandemic is not going to go away anywhere soon, it's what we do now and what we do next that counts."
The Director-General of Health says he hopes everyone can continue these measures to ensure a safe Christmas.
"I'm sure everybody is keen to have a relaxing Christmas break and get away for it," he said.
"The sooner we can do these things and lock us into our daily routines, the more likely we will be able to have a safe Christmas."
"Remember, this virus doesn't take breaks," Dr Bloomfield said on Thursday.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) announced two community cases on Wednesday, both linked to the Port Worker who tested positive on Saturday.
The person who tested positive had visited several areas around Auckland, including The Malt in Greenhithe, Snap Fitness in Browns Bay and had a household contact who attended Rangitoto College.
These cases are considered "low risk," The MOH urges Kiwis to stay at home if they become sick and get tested immediately.
