Police are attempting to find the family of a young child who was thrown from her scooter after being hit by a car in Auckland.
The "scary" moment occurred as a mother attempted to cross Hobsonville Road in West Harbour with a pram and two children on scooters on Tuesday.
Dashcam footage shows one of the children, who isn't wearing a helmet, seen lagging behind and rushing to catch up with her family.
A ute braked heavily and was able to avoid her but a car coming from the other direction didn't have time to stop and the girl was shoved forward several metres along the road.
The girl appeared to be uninjured in the incident, picking up her scooter and running off the road. Both the driver of the truck and car were seen getting out of their vehicles and walking across the road to check that the girl is okay.
A spokesperson for police said they were aware of the footage and it has been reported to them.
"We're currently making enquiries to speak with the child’s family to ensure she is OK and provide education around road safety," they said.
"We want to remind all road users, including pedestrians, of the importance of keeping themselves and their families safe on our roads. This includes ensuring parents have direct supervision of their children on or near public roads, they look before they cross, and use designated pedestrian crossings where possible."
A video of the incident, captured on another car's dash camera, was uploaded to the Dash Cam Owners New Zealand Facebook page with the caption: "Mum needs to take responsibility here".
Commenters agreed, saying the child's mother needs a "reality check" and to teach her children to look before they crossroads.
"That's so scary!!" one person said. "We don't live far and she's very lucky those drivers were more aware of her than her mother was. The amount of people that spend down this road is insane."
Others pointed out there is a pedestrian crossing less than 100 metres down the road which would have ensured the family could cross safely.
"The pedestrian crossing is not too far away from where she is crossing over on that road!! Careless mother," one person said.
"Laziness. I'm sure a short walk to the pedestrian crossing wouldn't have been too much to ask. Could’ve ended tragically," another commented.
They also pointed out the child should have been wearing a helmet for protection.
The incident comes only two days after a baby was killed in a car accident in Northcote, Auckland.
The five-month-old child died after its stoller rolled down a driveway onto the street near the Exmouth Rd roundabout and was hit by a car.
