Wellington High School has resolved a threat made to the school with the support of police.

A police spokesperson told Newshub they are talking to two people about the threat, made on social media, which caused the school to lockdown.

Early on Thursday, police flocked to the school after credible reports of a threat.

Parents were urged to stay away as the school dealt with the incident.

Principal Dominic Killalea says the situation has now been resolved.

"The situation we were managing has now been resolved with police support. All students, staff and persons on-site are safely accounted for," he said in a statement.

Killalea said everyone at the school did "extremely well".

Police told Newshub they are staying in the area as a precaution.
