New Zealand has been given a heads-up for thunder and lightning on Monday afternoon.
MetService says Kiwis should keep an eye on the rain radar with "rumbles of thunder" forecast later today.
"Lightning strikes could be witnessed around Otago and central regions of the North Island later today," it posted to Twitter.
"Any heavy showers are likely to form inland and may drift over coastal cities."
Meanwhile watches and warnings are in place for heavy rain in the West Coast and gale northwesterlies for southern and eastern parts of the South Island.
"An active front, preceded by strong northwesterlies, is expected to approach the south of the South Island from the Tasman Sea tonight, then move northeast over the South Island on Tuesday," MetService says.
"The front is forecast to bring a period of heavy rain to the west coast of the South Island, where a heavy rain warning and watches are in force. In addition, a strong wind warning and watches are in force for southern and eastern parts of the South Island.
"People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts in case any changes are made or further areas are added."
