The father of two Kiwi teenagers killed in Sydney is desperate to get to Australia to farewell his sons.
A Givealittle page has been set up for Nigel Hakopa, from Wellington, with the goal of flying him over the ditch for the funeral of his children.
The page identifies 15-year-old and 17-year-old Tiari and Cirus Whakaneke as the two teenagers who died when the car they crashed during a chase in Abbotsbury on Sunday.
Australian police allege that 37-year-old Mazen Kabbara woke up to hear his car being stolen and got into another car to chase the boys. The chase ended when the Holden SS Commodore collided with a power pole at high speed, killing the teenagers instantly. The driver of the car survived and is in hospital, according to the Givealittle page.
Kabbara was arrested at the scene and charged with five offences including dangerous driving causing death, driving in a dangerous manner causing grievous bodily harm, and negligent driving causing death.
Paramedics told media it was the worst crash they had ever seen. Ambulance Insp Joe Ibrahim described the scene as "absolutely horrendous".
"It is probably one of the worst, in fact, it is one of the worst. A senseless and tragic loss of young life, which should never have occurred."
The Givealittle page described the situation as "every parent's worst nightmare".
"Losing not only one but two sons in a tragic accident - two lives cut short."
So far more than $7600 has been raised.
