If you're planning a BBQ, to lounge in the sun, and pop open a glass of bubbles on Christmas Day, you may be in luck.
While the forecast isn't set in stone yet, MetService says it's likely most of New Zealand will see settled weather on Christmas Day.
"There is still significant uncertainty revolving around the two tropical cyclones near Fiji and Niue so these forecasts shouldn't be taken as 'set in stone,'" MetService meteorologist Lewis Ferris says.
MetService has used examples from two model forecasts. The first is from the European Centre for Medium-Range Forecasts - which points to relatively settled conditions across the country.
"This is the ideal solution if you were planning to be outside on the 25th," Ferris says.
But the most accurate forecasts will be revealed closer to Christmas.
"From Sunday 20th up until the 'big day' is when our team of meteorologists have much more certainty about the weather systems," says Ferris
There's a chance two tropical cyclones near Fiji and Niue could still pose some threat to New Zealand. WeatherWatch is predicting Fiji will be "smack bang" in the middle of Tropical Cyclone Yasa between Thursday afternoon until Saturday morning.
The cyclone has just been upgraded to a category 5 storm with sustained winds at 200km/h and gusts reaching 270km/h expected.
WeatherWatch says there's a 40 percent chance the cyclone's remains will have some impact on New Zealand but adds the risk is low.
Meanwhile, most areas around the country are in for a sunny slice of summer this week. Some inland and eastern parts of the country may see above-average temperatures over the coming days.
"Sinking, warming air in high-pressure systems typically inhibits cloud and rain formation, leaving plenty of sunshine for many," MetService meteorologist Mathapelo Makgabutlane said on Monday.
"Though there will still be a few spots of drizzle and afternoon showers for some, many of us already enjoying the holiday season will enjoy fine weather and warm days."
