Three people are seriously injured after a vehicle crashed after a hit-and-run in Murupara.
A police spokesperson told Newshub a car hit a person on Matai Street at 11pm on Wednesday, and the driver sped off.
The pedestrian was rushed to hospital in serious condition as officers searched for the driver.
A few minutes later the car was found crashed on Te Whaiti Rd in Minginui, but it's driver had abandoned it on foot. One passenger was seriously injured and taken to hospital.
The driver was found nearby, also seriously injured.
Police say there were no other cars involved in the crash, and the Serious Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances.
The incident is not thought to have been gang-related.
