Police have discovered clothing belonging to a missing kayaker at the bottom of the ocean.
The dive squad found the items belonging to 22-year-old Koyren Campbell on Tuesday, three days after he failed to return from his trip off the coast of Tarakena Bay.
"This discovery raises a number of possibilities, all of which will be assessed. However it also increases police's concerns for Koyren," a spokesperson said in a statement.
"We continue to appeal to members of the public in the South Coast area including Eastbourne through to Wairarapa, or along the Miramar/Seatoun coast, to be vigilant and on the lookout for Koyren."
Police are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who has come across a life jacket in the greater Wellington region.
The search is continuing for the man but changing weather conditions mean it could be called off. Wellington is currently under a strong wind warning with gusts reaching up to 130km/h in some places.
