A fire in the Northland area of Matawaia continues to spread as fire crews attack from the air and the ground.
Six helicopters and 13 fire crews doused the blaze on Pipiwai Rd last night which has been burning for more than 12 hours.
It has burnt approximately 170 hectares of scrub threatening homes and causing evacuations.
