A Bay of Plenty man who died in a suspected homicide late last year has been named as Wipatene Mason.
The 41-year-old died in hospital two days after an incident on Christmas Eve - for which a 35-year-old man has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Police say they are still making inquiries into Mason's death and further charges are likely.
Emergency services were called to a property in Nukuhou, near Whakatane, around 5pm on December 24 after reports of a "disorder incident".
Two other men were seriously injured in the incident and also taken to hospital.
