The search for a kayaker missing off the Wellington coast will resume on Monday.
Police found the kayak floating in the water in Tarakena Bay on Sunday - but there was no sign of its occupant.
The person had gone out earlier in the day and failed to return when expected.
Search and rescue teams were stood down on Sunday as the light faded, but the search will resume on Monday.
A helicopter will be used to scour the water from above, while other teams hunt for the missing kayaker both from the ocean and the land.
