It's going to be a wet weekend for some parts of the country, but the weather is expected to clear in most areas by Sunday.
Rain is set to fall throughout the country, and there may be thunderstorms in the North Island on Saturday.
MetService is forecasting steadier showers between Coromandel, Taupo and Bay of Plenty with possible thunder tomorrow.
In the South Island light showers are forecast on Saturday morning in Westport, Buller, Nelson and south of Dunedin, with showers in inland areas on Saturday afternoon and they could be quite heavy in mountainous areas such as the Kaikoura Ranges and the Southern Alps.
Forecaster Mmathapelo Makgabutlane said things are looking to ease the following day.
"The only places that could still see a little bit of wet weather on Sunday would be the western parts of the South Island, the far south, as well as the northern parts of the North Island could still see a bit of a shower on Sunday."
She said the rest of New Zealand things should improve by Sunday.
