Man accused of 'disturbing' hit and run of single mother appears in court

The man accused of running over a single mother at a pedestrian crossing in Lower Hutt has appeared in court.

Jade Harris is charged with careless driving causing injury to Anna Chesterfield and failing to stop after the crash in Taita on January 30.

CCTV video obtained by Newshub shows the car driving away after flinging Chesterfield almost 20 metres down the road.

Chesterfield was left with multiple fractures and her family set up a Givealittle page to help with her recovery.

Days after the crash, Chesterfield's cousin, Nicky Wilton, told Newshub the incident was "disturbing".

Harris has been remand on bail by the court registrar and is due to reappear in the Hutt Valley District Court next week.
