A 47-year-old man has appeared in court after being arrested for the murder of Auckland businesswoman Elizabeth Zhong.
Zhong, 55, was found dead in her car near her home in Sunnyhills, East Auckland in November 2020.
Her body inside the boot of her black Land Rover a short distance from her home.
Police launched a homicide investigation and almost four months on, Counties Manukau detective inspector Shaun Vickers announced a man had been arrested and charged with murder.
The 47-year-old man appeared in the Manukau District Court on Friday afternoon.
His lawyer argued for name suppression which the judge granted.
Zhong was a businesswoman with an interest in the film and wine industries.
Several of her companies had gone into receivership before her death.
Det Insp Vickers said on Friday morning that police had worked diligently to bring justice for Zhong.
"We know the community expected Police to get on with the investigation and bring about justice for Elizabeth.
"From the outset of this investigation, the team of detectives working on Operation Attina have worked diligently to bring about a result in this case.
"We hope this will bring some reassurance to the community and Elizabeth's family."
