More than 10,000 people have reported feeling a 4.5 magnitude earthquake near Wellington.
According to GeoNet, the "moderate" quake struck 10km north-east of Porirua at 6:15pm on Saturday. It hit at a depth of 25km.
More than 12,400 people had reported feeling the earthquake as of 6:25pm.
"Woaaah heard that one coming for so long I was convinced it was a truck and the actual shake gave me a huge fright," said one person on Twitter following the quake.
"Jeepers that was decent," said another.
