Police are asking the people of Palmerston North for information after a local man was discovered dead in the centre of town.
Owen Wildbore-Brumby was found in the bushes of the Square Garden on 16 February.
Detective Carl Newton said on Thursday he is aware of "speculation" in the community about how Wildbore-Brumby died.
"While the investigation into the circumstances of his death continues, it is being treated as unexplained.
Enquiries are ongoing and police are also awaiting the results of forensic testing."
Police are reviewing CCTV footage to determine what occurred in Wildbore-Brumby's final hours and are interested in speaking to anyone who saw him between the evening of Saturday 13 February and Tuesday 16 February.
They also want to identify anyone who was associated with Wildbore-Brumby in this timeframe.
Wildbore-Brumby was a well-known figure in Palmerston North. Stuff reports more than 300 people attended a candle-lit memorial for the man, well-known as a rough sleeper.
