A man is in police custody after two shots were allegedly fired in Massey, west Auckland on Saturday night.
A police spokesperson confirmed on Sunday morning officers had been responding to a firearms incident on Don Buck Rd. A section of the busy street was cordoned off and locals were asked to avoid the area.
"Police have now taken a man into custody following a firearms incident in Massey," a spokesperson said in an update later on Sunday.
Officers were initially called to an address on West Coast Rd at 10:44pm following reports of an altercation. One person was said to be in a possession of a firearm and two shots were allegedly fired into the air.
No injuries were reported, the spokesperson confirmed.
A vehicle believed to be involved in the alleged altercation was spotted by the Eagle helicopter shortly after 4am and tracked to an address on Don Buck Road.
There is no ongoing risk to the community, the spokesperson said, and police would like to thank the public for their patience.
The circumstances of the incident are still under investigation.
A local business owner earlier said helicopters could be heard flying overhead on Sunday morning and armed police were at the scene.
