Armed police swarmed a house in West Auckland on Monday night after receiving reports that several shots had been fired.

Officers converged on the Murillo Place property in Henderson after gunfire was heard at around 11:30pm.

According to the New Zealand Herald, witnesses heard a man screaming. A listener who called Newstalk ZB overnight said they could see a man lying on the ground. He had been screaming for about five minutes, they said.

A police spokesperson confirmed to Newshub that armed officers responded to the incident, along with the Eagle helicopter and police dogs.

"The address was cordoned and a voice appeal carried out," the spokesperson said.

A 43-year-old man emerged from the property and was taken into custody without incident. Three firearms were also seized.

The man now faces charges including unlawfully possessing a firearm, the spokesperson said, and is expected to appear in Waitakere District Council on Tuesday.

Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
