An investigation is underway after police found a person dead and another critically injured at a south Auckland property.
Police were called to a McNally Rd property in Pukekohe just after 9am on Wednesday.
A man was found with critical injuries and was transported to Middlemore Hospital.
While making enquiries at the scene, police said they also found a dead body at the address.
"At this stage we are treating this death as unexplained," a police spokesperson said.
"A scene examination is underway this afternoon at the McNally Rd property and a scene guard will remain in place overnight."
Police have been speaking with residents in the area and are working to formally identify the person.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place on Thursday.

In a separate incident, another person was seriously injured after a fall in Pukekohe on Wednesday morning.
St John received a call at 10:06am in response to the accident.
Four ambulance crews, one incident manager and one helicopter from Auckland were called in.
St John treated one patient in a serious condition and transported them to Bledisloe Park, where a helicopter picked them up.
The patient was airlifted to Middlemore Hospital.
