A man has died and another taken into custody following a "serious assault" on a quiet residential street in Waikato.
The incident occurred on Aileen Place in Nawton, Hamilton on Wednesday morning.
A police spokesperson told Newshub the victim and alleged offender are believed to be known to each other.
"A man has been taken into custody in relation to the incident and is assisting police with their enquiries," they said.
Police say the man was taken into custody on Jasmine Place in Cambridge - a half-hour drive away.
Emergency services were earlier called to the scene at about 10:50am on Wednesday. St John was notified of the assault and sent an ambulance, a rapid response unit and a manager to the scene.
Locals on social media reported seeing five police cars, a pair of ambulances and the fire service parked on Aileen Place.
