Coronavirus: One new case of COVID-19 in managed isolation, none in community

Just one new coronavirus infection has been detected in New Zealand over the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health says.

The new case - a recent arrival from Nepal, who transitted through the United Arab Emirates - was detected at an Auckland managed isolation facility, and has now been transferred to quarantine facility the Jet Park Hotel.

For the 67th day running, there are no new community cases.

However three potential historical cases have been detected - one staying in Auckland, who travelled here from Pakistan via the UAE; and two in Hamilton, from India and the United States respectively.

One previously reported case has now recovered, and the total number of active cases in New Zealand now stands at 28. The total number of confirmed cases is 2277.

The ministry wasn't able to provide a testing update due to a "database issue".

New South Wales update

The Ministry of Health says it's in contact with Australian counterparts following the confirmation of a positive case of COVID-19 in the community in Sydney on Wednesday.

"Information about locations of interest visited by the case is available on the New South Wales health website," a statement reads.

"Anyone in New Zealand who has been at any of the locations of interest at the specified times should contact Healthline on 0800 358 5453, self-isolate and be tested as soon as possible."

Those still in Australia and visited a location of interest at the specified times are advised should follow New South Wales health advice regarding isolation and testing, and not travel to New Zealand.

"The Ministry has requested airlines communicate this message to anyone before flying to New Zealand from New South Wales. At this stage, our public health assessment is that the risk remains low."

A further update on the situation in Sydney is expected later on Thursday.

Meanwhile 22 of the 32 people advised to isolate at home in New Zealand following the Brisbane Airport green zone breach have returned negative COVID-19 tests.

"Remaining passengers who weren’t at the locations of interest at the specified times previously advised should continue monitoring their health and if symptoms develop, call Healthline and get a test," the ministry says.
