A father and his teenage son are the two people who died in a serious house fire in the north Auckland suburb of Coatesville on Tuesday morning, it's emerged.
Emergency services were called to a residential property on Mahoenui Valley Rd shortly before 6:30am.
Newshub understands the pair were living in a minor dwelling at the back of the rural property. They're well-known in the small community, where the son had attended the local primary school.
Their bodies were found on the property.
"Police will be carrying out a scene examination along with Fire and Emergency investigators, who will work to establish the cause of the fire," police said.
A specialist fire investigator is currently at the scene. The blaze has now been extinguished.
An additional person has sustained minor injuries, St John told Newshub.
