Acting Minister for Emergency Management Kris Faafoi is holding a press conference in Canterbury in response to the state of emergencies declared in the area.
Both the Timaru and Ashburton districts have declared a state of emergency following widespread flooding and evacuations are currently underway.
Faafoi is in Canterbury throughout Sunday to assess the situation and support the local response.
