A night-shift worker in Balclutha, Otago has shared footage of an unusual visitor to the town's main street.
Carwyn MacAulay was heading home from his shift at Silver Ferns Farms early on Tuesday morning when he saw what appeared to be a "dark shape" on Clyde St.
"I was coming home and I just saw this dark shape on the road up ahead and to my surprise here's this wild boar on the middle of the road," he tells Newshub.
MacAulay estimates the wild boar to be around 72kgs. He says the surrounding bush is known for wild pigs but he's "never ever heard of a wild pig being in Balclutha before".
After taking a "couple Snapchats" for his mates he followed the boar down towards a riverbank - and that was the last he saw of it.
"It sort of went through a wee bit of industrial area down the back of Clutha and up over towards the flood bank, and that's as far as I could follow it."
MacAulay's video of the boar has attracted hundreds of likes and comments on Facebook, with some users sharing snaps of the boar in different locations nearby. He says he's "quite surprised" at how viral the clip has gone.
