Weather in pictures: Parts of New Zealand turned into winter wonderland as polar blast brings heavy snow, big swells in Wellington

Southern and central parts of New Zealand have become winter wonderlands as a polar blast forces icy Antarctic air north, leading to heavy blankets of snow in low areas.

The thick snow has forced flights to be grounded and closed a number of roads, causing disruption on some of the country's key routes.
