A woman is "disturbed" after she was almost accosted by a naked man as she walked along a popular track in Waihi.
The woman shared her experience on social media in a bid to warn other women who venture along the Trig trail - a local bushwalk featuring stunning coastal views overlooking Waihi Beach.
The woman said she had been walking along the trail on Sunday afternoon when the naked man snuck up behind her. When the man spotted her husband further up the track, he bolted - but the woman said she felt sure he would've attacked had she been alone.
"A naked man was coming up behind me, obviously planning to attack me," the woman said in a post to the Waihi/Waihi Beach Noticeboard on Facebook.
"He shot off into the bush when he saw my husband further up the track, who had stopped to wait for me. We went to look for him but he had disappeared.
"We are feeling rather disturbed."
She urged other women to remain alert, particularly if they embark on the walk alone.
"Please be alert and aware if walking up there alone. There are some scary people hanging around."
A police spokesperson confirmed to Newshub the woman had reported the incident later that afternoon.
"Police received a report of a naked man approaching a person on a walking track at Waihi Beach. The incident happened a couple of hours earlier," the spokesperson said.
"At this stage there are no further available lines of enquiry."
