A health professional at Middlemore Hospital has been placed into quarantine after an incident involving PPE equipment used during the management of a COVID-19 patient.
A statement from the Ministry of Health said the health professional quickly reported the incident and was moved to a quarantine facility.
The DHB reports the breach was minor, other protections were in place, no one else was affected and any risks from this incident are low. The health professional is fully vaccinated.
A COVID-19 patient in Fiji was flown to Middlemore Hospital for care on Thursday.
The Ministry of Health confirmed to Newshub health authorities "have approved a formal request for the transfer and treatment of a patient from Fiji who has tested positive for COVID-19".
It is unknown if the two cases are related.
