A man has been charged with manslaughter after an investigation into the death of Kimleang Youn, who fell from a moving vehicle in south Auckland earlier this year.
Youn, also known by his nickname Heng, suffered critical injuries after falling from the car on Robertson Rd in Māngere at about 8:30pm on April 28.
But the 28-year-old could not be saved and sadly died in hospital weeks later.
Police have now arrested and charged a 41-year-old man over the incident. He is expected to appear in Manukau District Court on Friday morning charged with manslaughter.
It's understood the vehicle involved in the incident did not stop after Youn had fallen.
Detective Senior Sergeant Kepal Richards of Counties Manukau Police said police were continuing to support Youn's family.
"I would like to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of the investigation team who have worked tirelessly on this investigation, and we hope the arrest offers Mr Youn's family some degree of comfort," he said.
"Our thoughts and sympathies are with Mr Youn's family at this extremely difficult time."'
Det Snr Sgt Richards had previously said police were treating the circumstances around the incident as suspicious.
"Our enquiry team has spoken with a number of people who came to Kimleang's aid after the incident, but there are still other people we would like to hear from," he said in May.
"Police are aware that some people at the scene may have been recording at the time emergency services arrived. We ask that these people come forward and contact Police."
