A booze-fueled Wellington City Council party held at the organisation's offices has culminated in an investigation and a review of the council's internal alcohol policy.
It's understood a farewell office drinks were held in May and attended by senior council staff.
However the event was blighted by drunken behaviour and only came to an end when a security guard caught a couple in a 'compromising position', Stuff reports.
A Wellington City Council spokesperson told Newshub they were confident no liquor licensing bylaws had been breached at the event, as no licence is needed for office drinks so long as money doesn't change hands.
Chief executive Barbara McKerrow said the council was unable to respond to questions about the specific allegations being looked into, as it can't publicly comment on any internal investigations relating to staff.
However she said the council would be carrying out a review of its internal drug and alcohol policy after the event to ensure "we have the right checks and balances in place regarding the consumption of alcohol at work or work-related functions".
"We want to put in place clear guidelines and protocols so that we can ensure that we are responsible hosts and ensure that our staff are safe," she told Newshub.
McKerrow says claims a blanket alcohol ban had been imposed at council events were incorrect.
Stuff reports a party with alcohol was held at council offices this week, but strict rules were in place.
