Five people have been taken into custody after police were led on a pair of high-speed chases across Auckland on Friday afternoon.
Police say charges are likely after the incidents, which resulted in an Eagle helicopter being deployed and an officer being injured by their own police dog.
It all kicked off just before 12:30pm when police received a report of an incident during which offenders were seen at an address in Hillside Rd in the south Auckland suburb of Papatoetoe.
"One of the offenders was reported to have a firearm with him," said Inspector Peter Raynes of Tamaki Makaurau Police.
"Two vehicles were observed fleeing the scene, one of which was spotted by Eagle helicopter and monitored as it travelled northbound on the Southern Motorway.
"The vehicle, which was identified to be stolen, continued onto the North Western motorway driving at high speeds."
The vehicle exited the motorway at Lincoln Rd in west Auckland and was spiked. However it continued to "drive recklessly at very high speeds" until police units brought the vehicle to a forced stop on Edsel St in Henderson.
Two occupants were arrested at the vehicle, while two fled and were apprehended nearby.
Police say one of the officers sustained a minor injury from a police dog during thr incident and is receiving treatment.
"The second vehicle was also identified by Eagle and was monitored as it stopped in Auckland City," said Insp Raynes.
The driver of this vehicle has been taken into custody, and enquiries are ongoing.
