The weekend is looking frosty for much of Aotearoa, with snow flurries and biting wind chill expected to roll up from the south on Saturday.
Weatherwatch reports Saturday will be mild across the North Island - but the South Island is a different story, with temperatures plummeting and snow flurries expected.
The flurries are anticipated to drift in at low levels - around 100 to 200m elevations. There's even a chance some snow will fall at sea level - a sign of just how chilly it's going to get.
On Sunday, that chill will creep towards the North Island, with snow expected in the Remutaka and Hawke's Bay Ranges.
These flurries will get down to about 300 - 400m elevation.
Despite creeping closer to sea levels, there's not expected to be a heavy coating of snow in the lower regions.
In the mountain ranges, however, there could be more than 70cm of snow.
MetService is warning Kiwis to wrap up warm for the weekend as gales sweep across Tararua, and Hawke's Bay.
Winds could become severe across Nelson, Buller and Auckland - even all the way up to the Coromandel Peninsula.
