A meth bust in the lower North Island has resulted in a man's arrest and the seizure of P, cash and firearms.
Central District CIB Detective Inspector Paul Baskett says the bust came after police staff stopped a car in Ōtaki at about 3:20pm on Wednesday afternoon.
He says they located 300 grams of P and $130,000 in cash, and subsequently arrested a 35-year-old man who is charged with possession of methamphetamine for supply.
He is due to appear in Levin District Court on Wednesday, September 22.
"Subsequent searches have resulted in the recovery of five firearms, three of which were located in the vehicle," said Det Insp Baskett.
"The arrests are an excellent result from local staff. This methamphetamine was destined for our community and I have no doubt that our team has prevented significant harm by removing it.
"Stopping its distribution will reduce harm not only to those that have already been exposed to the harmful effects of this destructive drug, but those who are impacted by the crime that is inevitably created by it."
Det Insp Baskett says police want to send a clear message that criminal activity and illegal firearms will not be tolerated in the community.
"Police are committed to stamping out the distribution of methamphetamine and the detrimental impact it has on all communities," he said.
