The moment a group of youths were involved in a high-speed police chase through Auckland in a stolen vehicle has been captured on camera.
On Friday afternoon police were alerted to an incident at an address in Hillside Rd in the south Auckland suburb of Papatoetoe.
"One of the offenders was reported to have a firearm with him," Inspector Peter Raynes of Tamaki Makaurau Police told Newshub on Friday.
Two vehicles were observed fleeing the scene.
One of the vehicles, which was reported stolen, was spotted by the Eagle helicopter and monitored as it travelled at "high speeds" to the motorway exit at Lincoln Rd in west Auckland.
Police said the vehicle was spiked but continued to "drive recklessly at very high speeds" until police units brought the vehicle to a forced stop on Edsel St in Henderson.
The other vehicle was monitored heading into Auckland city where the driver was taken into custody.
Now a video from the incident has surfaced on social media showing four youths in a car being chased by police.
"They're right behind us aye," one of the boys can be heard saying.
He then appears to say they're "going to get a hiding", as sirens blare in the background.
A police spokesperson confirmed a 14-year-old is due to appear in the Youth Court on Tuesday in relation to the car chase on a charge of unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle.
"Four other youths are being referred to Youth Aid and enquiries are ongoing."
Police say one of the officers sustained a minor injury from a police dog during the incident and received treatment.
