The lower North Island and top of the south are in for the damaging winds that wiped out power across much of Auckland on Tuesday.
Maintenance teams have been working around the clock to get power on after the gale force south-westerlies and rain. Northland and Canterbury also got a lashing of wind and rain overnight.
Winds of more than 110km/h slammed Auckland on Monday night - in some cases parking large trees on top of cars and moving trampolines.
"Auckland really got it bad this time around," one resident told Newshub.
"We honestly thought the roof was going," another Aucklander said.
In the suburb of Point Chevalier, locals woke to find their iconic Norfolk pine almost half of its former self.
Two thousand homes are still without power in Auckland on Tuesday night.
In Northland and the deep south, rain and high winds also wreaked havoc and with a fresh dump of snow for Canterbury and Otago - August's first cold snap has left its calling card.
