Wilson the horse is happy and safe after being dramatically rescued from flooding on Tuesday.
The three-year-old pacer is now at home in West Auckland being pampered by his relieved owner.
"He made it through the night, he's eating everything and as you can see he's looking quite bright and perky," said Tracey Roff, "He's happy, he realises how lucky he is."
But his may not have been the most daring rescue yesterday. That honour could belong to another family.
An Huapai family displaced in lockdown by flooding say they've lost everything but are lucky to still have each other.
It comes after the area had its second wettest day on record on Tuesday.
Flash flooding forced the evacuation of 50 homes and on Wednesday residents were taking stock of the damage.
One family told Newshub they had to hand their children out of a second-floor window and onto jet skis in the middle of the night.
"We climbed out... and we handed them off... that got them out to safety," Latisha George said.
The entire contents of their home washed away in the storm waters.
"Everything is pretty much ruined," George said. "It was pretty horrible seeing when we were boated out seeing our belongings floating past us."
"The main thing is we are alright and the animals are OK," George said.
The family is still looking for their pig but Sooty, the family cat, turned up safe and well on Wednesday morning.
Their contents aren't insured and they now need to find a new home, but a Givealittle page has raised $36,000 for the family.
Nearby, the clean-up is continuing.
"It reminded me of the scene of the Titanic," another resident said of the flooding. "The water started coming through the front door."
The road through Kumeu was closed on Tuesday but on Wednesday it's dried up.
