Waitematā DHB says the risk to staff at Waitakere Hospital is low after a person with COVID-19 showed up to its emergency department on Friday.
The person was showing symptoms of the virus and placed into a dedicated area away from others.
"Patients in this area are kept separate from each other," the DHB told Newshub in a statement. "Following a positive COVID-19 test, the patient was moved to a negative pressure room and has since been discharged to MIQ."
A negative pressure room allows air to flow in but not out, minimising the risk an infected patient will spread the virus through the air conditioning system and when doors are opened.
There was no direct contact with other patients, and all staff who interacted with the case were in full PPE gear, so the risk is deemed low.
Waitakere Hospital is located in the west Auckland suburb of Henderson. While there are presently no locations of interest in the suburb listed, there was a positive case at a high school a few blocks away from the hospital earlier this month.
