A learner driver's lesson came to an abrupt halt after they hit another car, drove through a fence and crashed into the side of a house.
The unfortunate driver was having a lesson with an AA Driving School instructor when things took a turn for the worst.
A witness told the Nelson App she was driving down Annesbrook Dr when the learner driver pulled out of Parkers Rd and T-boned her.
"He didn't see me and smashed me right on the driver's side, he went through a fence and damaged the piles of the house," she told the Nelson App.
The witness said both she and the young learner driver were shaken after the incident but uninjured.
A section of the fence he drove through was destroyed and both the car and the house sustained some damage.
Nelson locals were mainly sympathetic on the Nelson App Facebook page with one saying:
"Poor kid. I’m sorry you experienced this at such a young age, I know it can have a big effect on a teenager. Chin up… many more life lessons to come."
Some questioned why the instructor hadn't stopped the car with the emergency brake.
"Must have hit accelerator instead of brake like my old flatty she smashed into Richmond police station few yrs back. Don't understand how the instructor didn't hit there emergency brake."
Police said they towed the damaged car away.
AA Driving School has been approached for comment.
