Land-based searchers are canvassing bush and farmland in and around the Kiritehere beach area where a missing family's ute was found last weekend.
It's now been seven days since 34-year-old father Tom Phillips and his three children were last seen at his parents' farm in Marokopa, south Waikato.
The sea search was temporarily suspended Friday to allow exhausted surf lifesavers a break.
Sgt Sean Keeley said earlier in the week LandSAR teams had found "no sign of trail-cutting in the bush they've searched" but are still looking.
Insp Will Loughrin on Saturday said police were aware "members of the public are wanting to participate in their own searches".
"We understand people want to help however the search area is extremely challenging and we don't want a situation where people become injured or trapped, causing another search or rescue incident," he said.
"We ask anyone wanting to search to stay safe in the sandy beach areas only at Marokopa and Kiritehere."
Anyone who finds a potential clue should take a photo of it and contact police, quoting file number 210913/1952.
"Police would rather have the opportunity to review all items located and then discount them if they are not of significance," said Loughrin.
Police told Newshub on Friday the 34-year-old father's keys were under the mat when his swamped ute was found facing out to sea on Kiritehere beach Sunday morning.
They asked for more information on two motorcycles he recently owned, and on Saturday said they'd located one of them - a 2004 Honda XR400 - and were "satisfied"it wasn't linked to the family's disappearance.
"We are still wanting assistance to identify the whereabouts of the smaller 2019 Honda CRF50," said Loughrin.
They're still looking for people who might have "have had any direct interaction" with the ute found on Sunday.
