The Ministry of Health on Saturday reported 34 new local cases of COVID-19 in the North Island outbreak, 11 of them unlinked.
Eleven of the linked cases are known household contacts.
Of the new local cases, 31 are in Auckland and three in Waikato. All the Waikato cases have been linked to known clusters.
Thirty-one of the 44 cases reported on Friday have exposure events, the ministry said. There have now been 30 cases with no known links in the past two weeks.
At present there are 26 cases in hospital - three on the North Shore, 13 at Middlemore, eight in Auckland, one in Waikato and one in Palmerston North. Seven of these are in ICU or HDU.
As for the person whose positive test sparked the Northland lockdown, they are in an Auckland quarantine facility. Their travelling companion has not yet been found.
"The case was under investigation after returning a weak positive result from a test in Whangarei earlier this week and Friday returned a positive test result in Auckland," the ministry said.
"Public health staff continue to work closely with the case to determine any locations of interest or exposure events associated with the case. Public health staff are also working closely with police to identify possible locations or areas of interest."
Testing stations are open at six locations across Northland - find these on the DHB's website. Vaccination clinics are also available at Kaitaia, Whangarei, Dargaville, Kerekere, Kaikohe, and Moerewa.
Two cases were picked up at the border.
