There are no further COVID-19 cases to report stemming from Saturday's Bay of Plenty infection, the Ministry of Health says.
A positive test result for a person currently living near Katikati was reported on Saturday. They live in Pukekohe and are in the process of moving to a rural area north of Katikati, near Tauranga. For this reason, the person was permitted to cross the boundary in and out of Auckland.
The case is fully vaccinated, consistently used the NZ COVID Tracer app, and had no symptoms apart from regular seasonal hay fever. They had also taken at least five COVID-19 tests as part of regular surveillance, all of which returned negative.
The Ministry of Health deems there to be a low risk of any further spread from this case.
"Test results indicate that infection is in the early stages. In addition, vaccination status of the individual, regular test history, good use of the COVID app and rapid public health follow up with family members reduce the risk of community spread," they say.
All family members have been tested and are currently isolating.
