Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man was shot in the Auckland suburb of Avondale on Saturday morning.
He was rushed from the scene but later died in hospital.
Police were called to the area just before 4:30am on Saturday after gunshots were heard.
Saintly Ln was cordoned off while police, including armed offenders squad members, cleared a residential property.
Police are now speaking with a number of people from the property while the area remains cordoned off for an examination.
"We understand this morning's events have been distressing for them and we appreciate their ongoing patience as we continue to conduct enquiries in the area," Det Sinp Lloyd Schmid said.
