One person is confirmed dead after a small plane crashed near the Canterbury town of Twizel on Monday.
Emergency services were called to the incident near Lake Ōhau about 10:50am.
Police said in an update the sole occupant of the plane was found "deceased at the scene".
"Police are making enquiries in relation to the death on behalf of the Coroner," a spokesperson said.
"The Civil Aviation Authority has been notified."
