A Metlink bus swiped a parked car on Monday morning before careening across a Lower Hutt road and into a residential property, injuring five people.
Emergency services were called to the crash just outside Hutt Central on Knights Road, near Colin Grove, just before 11am.
Police confirmed five people had suffered minor injuries and were being treated at the scene, as well as the driver. It appears they had suffered a medical event, police said.
"The bus had side-swiped a parked car, then veered across the road and smashed into fences at the front of two residential properties," a police spokesperson told Newshub.
"It is understood the driver was experiencing a medical event at the time. Five passengers with minor injuries were treated at the scene by Wellington Free Ambulance, and the driver also received medical assistance."
Metlink didn't know any further details about the state of the driver or passengers when contacted by Newshub, but said the bus was part of its Tranzurban fleet.
Police and two ambulances were earlier at the scene, and part of Knights Rd had been closed.
