A positive case of COVID-19 has been reported in Christchurch after they travelled to Auckland for an event.
The person flew back into Christchurch on flight NZ 1295 last Saturday (November 13) after attending a tangi in Auckland.
The positive case is fully vaccinated and became symptomatic on Sunday once they returned to Christchurch.
Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield said the positive case is linked to a family member in the Auckland cluster.
The person lives in a household of six people who are all isolating and will be tested.
Dr Bloomfield says the person took all the appropriate measures and Christchurch will be able to deal with this case as they have before.
"We've had this before in Christchurch and been able to with early intervention, testing and contact tracing just isolate that and get around it," Dr Bloomfield says.
The Ministry of Health is advising any passengers on flight NZ 1295 to monitor for symptoms for the next 10 days and get a test.
Additional capacity has been added to current community testing centres in Orchard Road and Pages Road in Christchurch which are both open seven days a week.
The Drive Through Vaccination Clinic in Addington is open until 7:30pm every weeknight, and there’s a pop-up vaccination event in the car park at New World in Ferry Road Thursday and Friday this week from midday until 6:30pm.
The positive case in Christchurch comes after the Ministry of Health announced 194 new community cases, with 180 in Auckland, five in the Waikato, three in Northland and six in the Lakes District.
The positive Christchurch cases will be counted in Thursday's numbers.
It was also reported a man in his 60s had died in North Shore Hospital on Tuesday. The man was admitted to the hospital on November 4 with COVID-19 symptoms and subsequently tested positive.
