Dramatic images show the bottom floor of an Auckland house destroyed after a dump truck barrelled off the road, down a bank and smashed into the structure.
Police, Fire and Emergency and ambulance staff were all called to the scene on The Avenue, Albany at 10:10am on Tuesday after a "fully laden dump truck" hit a bridge pillar, veered off the road, went down a bank and crashed into a two-storey house.
There are no serious injuries, but the truck is "currently embedded in the building", according to police. It's unable to be removed until the structure is checked and it's deemed safe to do so.
"The bridge structure also needs to be checked by engineers. The public are asked to avoid The Avenue until the scene is cleared by emergency services."
Brent Spendiff, who lives just down the road from the crash site, told Newshub he was working from home when he heard "two very large bangs". He expected to see a "truck exploding", but then saw the truck "inside somebody's house".
"I was kinda scared to be honest. It sounded quite close and I didn't know what to expect".
